The team at Southwestern Hearing & Balance Center have served the health needs of Santa Fe and the communities of northern New Mexico since 1986. As a physician-owned hearing center, our audiologists partner closely with CHRISTUS St. Vincent ENT and David R. Brown, M.D. ENT to provide our patients with the best care possible.  We remain the only medically-based audiology and hearing aid practice in Santa Fe.

We have an immediate opportunity for a doctoral audiology student to join our team for the 2026-2027 externship rotation! This is an excellent opportunity where you will work alongside our CCC-A audiologists and physicians in a cohesive manner to provide the best experience for our patients. The student will work on a team responsible for administering a full range of diagnostic services, including ABR, OAE, VNG, ECOG, VEMPs, Epley, and adult/pediatric hearing evaluations. There will also be opportunities to dispense hearing aids, as well as take part in consultations, fittings, verification, counseling and community outreach. 

Our goal for each audiology extern is to gain real world experience working with patients of all ages by providing comprehensive services under the supervision of an appropriately licensed and certified audiologist. The experience we provide will enable the student to become a competent and highly coveted doctor of audiology.

Skills to have mastered prior to start:

  • Basic Diagnostic Audiology evaluation with differential diagnosis
  • Experience with adults and pediatrics
  • Experience with ABR and VNG preferred, but not required
  • Basic hearing aid fitting with adult population, including counseling and follow up
  • Good report writing skills
  • Basic audiology foundation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage patients independently

Skills the student is expected to learn/demonstrate:

  • Strengthen basic clinical skills
  • Manage patient assessment and evaluation
  • Manage a full caseload
  • Strengthen patient counseling skills
  • Communication with other medical providers in a professional manner

This is a full-time, paid position with a salary of $40,000, eligible for health insurance, paid time off and company holidays.
