AuD Externship
August 5, 2026
We are a growing private practice on California’s beautiful Central Coast, and it’s an especially exciting time for us. We’ve recently purchased a new building and are completing a full renovation of our forever home. While I don’t have photos just yet, the clinic is brand new and designed specifically to support a collaborative, patient-centered practice.
Our students gain experience across the full scope of audiology, including:
- Adult and pediatric diagnostic evaluations
- Hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and verification using evidence-based best practices
- Pediatric hearing healthcare
- Adult cochlear implant evaluations and programming
- Tinnitus management
- Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Learning the business side of running a successful private practice
One unique aspect of our externship is that housing may be available. We have a newly renovated apartment located directly above the clinic, making it possible to simply walk downstairs to work each day. A car isn’t necessary for daily life, although having one would make exploring the Central Coast even easier. If you do bring a car, parking would simply be off-site rather than in the clinic parking lot.
The location is hard to beat. The apartment is just a short walk to the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, known for its welcoming small-town feel, locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and weekly farmers’ market. It’s also situated right along San Luis Creek, with beautiful walking and biking trails just outside the door. Between nearby beaches, hiking, wineries, shopping, and year-round mild weather, it’s a wonderful place to spend an externship year.
As our practice continues to grow, we’re seeing a wide variety of patients—from pediatrics to adults receiving cochlear implants, comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, and hearing aid services. We strive to provide evidence-based care while creating a supportive environment where an extern can develop confidence, clinical skills, and independence.
