Paid AuD Externship

The Jefferson Balance and Hearing Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is a comprehensive adult audiology practice located in the greater Philadelphia area. Our goal is to provide patient care centered on best practices through an interdisciplinary team approach including audiologists, audiology technicians, physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses, residents and fellows.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is excited to offer 5 externship opportunities that will allow each doctoral extern to rotate between our various Jefferson Otolaryngology clinical sites for the 2027-2028 academic year.

• (Hospital/Academic/Satellite Clinics): 5 Full-Time Positions; Jefferson Balance & Hearing Center – Center City, Navy Yard, Holy Redeemer, Yardley, Abington, Torresdale, PA. Cherry Hill and Washington Township, NJ

  • Regular interactions with 4 neuro-otologists, other sub specialized physicians & staff
  • Approximately 99% adults

  • Opportunities for participation in research, local outreach events, international medical missions, manufacturer trainings, cochlear implant and middle ear surgery observations, patient resource and protocol development, etc. 

The Jefferson Balance & Hearing Center offers a 12-month fourth year Au.D. externship beginning in May 2027 & ending May 2028, pending program requirements. Externs are provided with supervision by experienced audiologists with ASHA CCC-A and/or ABA board certification in audiology, in addition to Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey licensing in audiology. Supervision from an audiologist with the ASHA CCC-A is guaranteed.

Bachelor’s degree is required. Applicants must be currently pursuing a clinical doctorate (Au.D.) degree in audiology through an accredited program.  Academic requirements must be met for degree completion prior to starting the 4th year externship.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on September 9, 10, and 11. Applicants selected will be asked to complete the following writing prompts prior to the interview:

2. If we were to ask your mom/dad/partner/friend, what would they say to us about recommending you for this role and why?
