Arizona Otolaryngology Consultants (AOC) is seeking one audiology extern to join our dynamic practice for the 2026-2027 academic year. AOC is dedicated to providing high quality services by following best practice measures and working collaboratively to deliver exceptional care. We are a busy ENT practice serving patients across the lifespan searching for a highly professional, organized, and self-motivated extern to join our audiology team.
At AOC, our mission is to provide the highest level of care to children and adults throughout the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. AOC provides the full spectrum of otolaryngology services.
As our audiology extern, you will obtain experience in the following clinical areas:
- Comprehensive audiologic evaluation
- Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAEs)
- Vestibular testing and interpretation
- Dix-Hallpike maneuver
- Cochlear implant candidacy identification, evaluation, counseling, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Bone conduction hearing aid candidacy identification, evaluation, counseling, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Hearing aid selection, fitting, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Real ear verification measurements with Verifit
- Counseling on audiometric findings, communication strategies, and realistic expectations
- Impressions and verification measures for custom hearing aid earmolds, swim plugs, shooters earplugs, and musician earplugs
- Tinnitus management and treatment
- Ototoxic monitoring
In addition to clinical training and development, our audiology extern will also obtain proficiency in:
- Billing for audiologic services (ICD-10 and CPT coding)
- Report writing including VNG and CI evaluations
- Manufacturer training opportunities and relationship building
- Proficiency in administrative tasks related to upholding efficiency in a busy ENT clinic
- Interprofessional collaboration with physicians, physician assistants, and SLPs
It is expected that a successful candidate will have mastered comprehensive audiologic evaluation and masking techniques prior to starting this externship. Strong working proficiency in hearing aid selection and programming is also appreciated. Willingness to learn, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent communication are required for this position. We are looking for a team player who is willing to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
We have 3 offices, you will likely be required to rotate between the 3 offices during the externship year to obtain a diversity of experience with multiple members of our audiology team. Potential employment opportunity may be present for a strong candidate at the end of the 2026-2027 externship term.
